Many people believe SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can magically bring thousands of targeted visitors to your website.

Unfortunately, in most cases, while good SEO is important, it usually won’t do the job all by itself. The real magic happens beyond SEO. You do need to apply SEO on your website, then do some social media marketing, and perhaps some publicizing and advertising. (If you’d rather have someone else do that, I can put you in touch with a reasonably-priced marketer.) Then, if you are patient, you may have the magic you’re hoping for.

Managing good SEO is tricky. If you get it wrong, you can actually be demoted in search engine results.

Fortunately, I’ve been installing SEO on websites for more than 20 years. I’ve learned how to do it exactly right. I’ll be glad to set up proper SEO on your website.

I have two packages at $150 and $300. If your budget is limited, go for the $150 package.

The $150 package is generally sufficient. With that, I’ll make sure your website is backed up, then I’ll take care of your tags, your tags, do a bit of keyword research, update some of the textual content if necessary, possibly adjust your home page, add a list of services, products or served communities if appropriate, and ping the search engines to let them know to reindex your website. With WordPress websites I will also install and configure a well-regarded free plugin that automates some background SEO processes.

The $300 package includes everything in the $150 package, plus I’ll perform deeper keyword research, spend more time on your Alt tags, and perform more detailed optimization on some of your inner pages.

You may have run into people selling ‘SEO Maintenance.’ They want to charge you a monthly fee. You should be aware that unless your website changes significantly, a one-time, reasonably-priced SEO installation is all you need. Anything more is smoke and mirrors.

I had one client tell me she had been spending $2,000 per month on SEO maintenance for over 2 years. I asked her how well that was working. She told me, “So far as I know, not a single client has come from that!”

Some of the SEO people guarantee front page search engine results. How do they do that? Well, in most cases, you can end up near the top of search results if someone enters your exact domain name into a search engine. However, most people don’t do that. They don’t know your domain name. They type in what they are looking for. With more than 1.5 billion websites competing, front page results is something even I can’t guarantee.

If you’re not getting the magical results you were promised and try to contact them about all the money you spent, they usually react in one of three ways: 1) They’ll tell you it takes time and you haven’t waited long enough. 2) They simply never answer their phone or respond to emails after you’ve paid. 3) They say you need to spend more money to get results. Then after you do spend more, they revert to #2, not taking your calls or responding to your emails.

Combining proper SEO with social media marketing, publicizing or advertising can bring you lots of the right website visitors.
